Man With Migraines Are More Inclined To Have Depression

Patients with headache, especially migraines, are in a greater number inclined to suffer from depression, feel fatigued, and have a host of other severe physical symptoms, according to a clinical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical trial involved 1090 patient who buy cymbalta online at headache clinics in three US states. Of the man tested, 236 reported occasional headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 887 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the woman were tested with migraines.

The medical research found women with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also six times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms depended to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among patients tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical research found the likelihood of major Psychotic Depression increased 32-fold if the patients also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms may incite or be a manifestation of major Depression in women with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt online and Psychotic Depression may heighten pain perception,” said medical investigation author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Manic Depression suggests a usual neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical research are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Major Depression would be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Heedless of what’s causing the dependence between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disease such as Depression complicates headache management and can stir up poorer consequences for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The medical study was backinged, in part, by the American Headache Society, which considers 18 million American people are affected by headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 17000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to improving women care through enlightenment and medical trial. A neurologist is a general practitioner specialized on diagnosing, curing and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and frequent sclerosis.
